Tradition
In Zambia, the tradition of crafting small woven baskets has been passed down through generations, particularly among local communities. These baskets are made from natural materials like grass, reeds, or palm fibers, and are intricately handwoven using techniques that reflect the region’s cultural heritage.
These baskets are used for various purposes, from carrying food to serving as decorative items, and they play an important role in daily life.

Meet Ruth
Back in July 2024, Janne was volunteering in a small village outside the capital Lusaka, in Zambia. Janne visited several villages outside the city, where most people live in mud huts, have no electricity, and have to walk long distances to fetch water. At one of the local markets, she bought a basket, from a local woman named Ruth.
After Janne came back we agreed to reach out to the volunteer organization to help us to track down the woman, Ruth, who has since made many baskets for us. Creating a more stable income and life for Ruth.
